Tuesday 5th of May 2020 would have been the 220th birthday of Dr George Henderson of Chirnside (1800-1860) – a country doctor whose writings are a treasury of local custom, tradition, story and rhyme.
To mark the occasion we are hosting an online festival to bring together the history, archaeology and creative arts of the local landscape that so inspired Dr Henderson.
Between 2-5th May we are inviting interested parties and groups to participate and celebrate the Whiteadder’s very own bard. The events will be posted on the project’s Facebook page and links also added here, under the latest news section.
Watch out for more details in the coming days. We will be organising talks from archaeologists and historians; songs, music and storytelling; artists work inspired by the landscape and more besides. We are also inviting local people to contribute their own songs, stories, memories and creative responses. Do feel free to get in touch to participate or just to help promote the event within your community and Facebook friends.
